The Bikepacker

Back in 2016, when doing recon rides for our Gravel Ride, we found so many great tracks and areas that we knew it would not be possible to use them all in our 1 day Gravel Ride.

So we decided that, one day, we would organise a bikepacking trip in which we would try to use as much as possible of these tracks/areas.

And that "one day" will be 2 days at the end of June.

We wanted to make this trip also accessible to people who have just started bikepacking or who want to give it a try. We think we have done this by providing certain services. Check below what you need and what we offer. We hope we will see a mix of experienced bikepackers and newbies to this type of cycling, so we can share experiences and gain knowledge over dinner and a beer (or more).

This trip will be limited to 50 riders.

The date

Start: saturday June 23th 2018 at 9AM (check below for the location)

Briefing is at 9AM. Start will be directly after the briefing.

Finish: sunday June 24th 2018 (somewhere in the afternoon, exact time depends on what time you get up and how fast you ride :-) ).

What you need

This is a 2 day "unsupported" bikepacking trip.

That means:

* you will need to carry your own gear (clothes, tent, sleeping bag... and food for the day) on your bike.

* everyone rides at his/her own speed (of course you can ride together if you want)

We will provide:

* track to put on your gps (the route will NOT be marked)

* a paper map of the area with some usefull info

* a camping spot for saturday night

* dinner on saturday evening (drinks not included)

* 1 La Redoutable-beer

* breakfast on sunday morning

* a special Dirty Boar t-shirt by The Vandal

* 2 BYE Nutrition endurance bars

* a usefull Dirty Boar Bikepacker item by Vaude

* a shower at a camping near the finish (6.5km)

If you don't have a tent, then we should be able to lend you one for the night. Add this request as a comment with your order. The number of available tents to lend are limited and we ask a fee of 5 euro (to be paid at the event itself). The tent will be set-up by us at the campsite on saturday evening.

Anything else that you might need is not included, so you will need to strap that to your bike (or buy on the road).

The course

We will ride mainly on gravel roads in the area of our Dirty Boar Gravel Ride and a little bit further (you will NOT need mountainbike skills). Some roads will be the same but we will also discover some other beautiful tracks of the region.

The first day (saturday) we start at Lac de la Gileppe and ride approx 130km to our campsite in Germany (Hellenthal).

The 2nd day (sunday) we ride back to Lac de la Gileppe via a different route (approx 100-120km).

The course still needs to be be finalised so we can't show you a map yet and elevation is unknown at the moment (but expect something similar to our 1 day Ride).

You will receive a gpx track a few weeks before the event.

Entry fee

This event is already sold out. Bu we will probably be back in 2019.

Terms, conditions & recommendations

Check this link for the Terms & conditions

We also have a few recommendations :

* Use a bike that is suitable for the event. Because it's a bikepacking trip you will need to be able to carry your gear (on your bike). And if you want to know which tyres & gears you will need: Check out our old news article Choose your Dirty Boar weapon

* You will need a GPS device because the route is NOT marked. We will provide you with the gpx track a few weeks before the event.

* Please also bring a USB powerbank/battery to charge the GPS at the camping (or during the day).

* The ride takes place in a somewhat remote area & is unsupported. So make sure you take all the necessary tools & spares to handle common problems (flat tyres, worn brake pads, loose bolts... and maybe also a broken chain). And some cable ties might be usefull for several things.

* You should be able to carry enough food & water because you will not find shops around every corner

* The sun should be out long enough so that you don't need lights. But it might be good to bring a small set of lights that makes you visible in case of fog or bad weather.
